What we stand for.

This place is about promoting a warm and friendly community of folks who are devoted to Hemp and all
its uses! We are religious in our beliefs about the important qualities of Hemp in all its forms. Formost, we
posit that Hemp is a much maligned and misunderstood plant. As a spieces it has suffered attack from
governmental and special intrest groups for unsubstantiated reasons. Whether it be textile industry or
forest companies seeking to eliminate competition from a better and more enviromentally sound product
or closed minded individuals that seek to unnecessarily criminalize and marginalize a huge segment of the
population, Hemp is a target.

As a community,The Hemp Church, seeks to spread the truth about Hemp and dispel the lies. We believe
that through honest and actual discourse will the benefits of Hemp be fully realized. This organization will
continue to promote the value of Hemp for that very reason. Your help and membership assist in this goal.

Our members are welcome to join us in all or some of our stated beliefs below. They are also FREE to
espouse their own beliefs independant of the Church. Likewise, The Hemp Church has the right to hold
some beliefs that diverge from that of its members as long as those beliefs do not affect the rights of
others. The overriding belief of ALL members of The Hemp Church is freedom of the individual as long as
those freedoms do not impinge on the rights of others. LET FREEDOM REIGN!!!

The following provides our position on a number of Hemp Related Issues:

Hemp as an industrial product:
Until the middle part of the 1900's Hemp was widely grown around the world and in the united states for
a variety of industrial products such as paper, cloth, rope as well as others. In more recent years a
resurgence of industrial Hemp growth and manufacturing has begun in North America. We at The Hemp
Church contend that Hemp has excellent potential as an industrial product for both traditional uses and
likely many new uses that need to be developed. Legislators need to move NOW to remove unnecessary
bans on the industrial Hemp industry.

Hemp as a food product:
Hemp (without any drug properties like THC) is being cited widely for its nutritional value and healthy
edible constituents. Despite proof of the food potentials of Hemp and the absence of ay measurable
amounts of drug constituents in the food products some federal agencies still seek to block the use of
Hemp as a food product based on false and antiquated beliefs that Hemp=Marijuana. The Hemp Church
holds that there should be no restrictions on use of Hemp as a food product beyond those placed on
other food items for public health reasons.

While there is an absolute difference between the industrial Hemp plant and the marijuana plant
containing THC, the plants are geneticlly similar. Due to the crossover effects of laws that
affect both plant varieties some comments are warranted regarding both medicinal and
recreational use of marijuana.

Hemp as a medicinal product:
There is considerable evidence both anecdotal as well as scientific indicating the medicinal uses of
marijuana in treating the symptoms of a broad range of ailments including (but not limited to) glaucoma,
AIDS, cancer, and MS.  There is also considerable evidence indicating legitimate medicinal uses of
marijuana for less serious medical problems.  While many state laws have changed to enable medicinal
patients to use marijuana other states and US Federal law continues to criminalize medicinal users and limit
the ability of legitimate researchers to study and assess the results of treatments using marijuana
legitimately.  The Hemp Church supports legitimate legal medicinal use of marijuana as well as continued
academic research that studies the medicinal uses of marijuana.  We also call for legislative change that will
end the unnecessary persecution of these patients and the blocking of their right to use their medicines.

Hemp as a recreational product:
It is fairly clear that marijuana varieties that contain psychoactive chemicals such as THC have been used
for thousands of years for what could be perhaps best described as recreational purposes.  It is equally
obvious that marijuana is still widely used today recreationally and it follows that this will not change in the
future.  While the "War on Drugs" and similar anti-drug policies have sought to eradicate marijuana,
supposedly for the greater good of society, these criminal justice based approaches have failed miserably.
The harm generated by a prohibitionist approach is very considerable as well in costs to society in general
and directly on those affected by the laws.  The alcohol prohibition era provides an excellent example of
the failure of prohibitionist approaches to dealing with common recreational intoxicants.

The Hemp Church is founded on the principle of personal freedom of the individual, the freedom
to choose.  We hold that adults who freely choose to engage in activities that do not infringe on
the rights of others should not be prosecuted criminally for those choices.  Marijuana use is
included in this concept of freedom of choice.  There is a place for governmental regulation of
recreational substances like marijuana just as there is governmental regulation of alcohol
however, criminal prohibition of a substance such as marijuana is doomed to fail and causes
more harm than any social good that it does.
